Canadian adolescents must adhere to stricter e-cigarette regulations, according to a health advocacy group
A Calgary-based health advocacy group calls attention to the need for further regulations pertaining to youth vaping and e-cigarette use.
More stringent laws governing e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches are demanded by Stop Addicting Adolescents to Vaping and E-Cigarettes (SAAVE).
The group wants to see all vaping flavors—aside from tobacco—banned, as well as single-use vaporizers and nicotine pouches, until they are sold in plain packaging behind pharmacy counters.
It is claimed that these modifications will shield young people from nicotine addiction and the negative health effects of smoking and vaping.
It is significant to remember that in Canada, it is against the law to supply or sell vaping goods to anybody younger than 18 (opens in a new tab). Certain provinces have age restrictions of 19 or 21.
An responsible government would stop the marketing of a highly addictive chemical in a way that promotes young usage, according to an internal medicine specialist.
Tobacco use is still the leading cause of mortality in Canada, and this highly addictive drug has a tragic past there as well.
Dr. Bruce Yaholnitsky has been discussing smoking and its harmful effects on oral health with patients for thirty years.
According to the periodontist and former president of the Alberta Dental Association, there has been a notable decline in the number of smokers over that time.
Regretfully, I have noticed a commensurate rise in the number of vapers with gum disease throughout the last (five) years. According to Yaholnitsky, these patients are younger and come into my office with damaged and inflammatory gum tissue.
Additionally, we are seeing a rise in dental decay, which may be related to the flavouring and sweetening ingredients used in vaping goods.
Raneet Kahlon, a SAAVE member, remembers witnessing a fellow high school student vaping, which she described as “trivial.”
“The tastes and candy-like packaging of nicotine products are highly alluring. “I’m worried about my younger sister because she’s starting high school next year,” Kahlon remarked. However, why should I be concerned? Why is she not protected by governments?
To prevent adolescents from vaping and nicotine addiction, governments must immediately outlaw flavours and single-use vaporizers.
