The sale of flavor-infused vapes is now prohibited in Quebec.

The province of Quebec is trying to crack down on vaping, so on October 31st, the revisions to its anti-tobacco law go into force.

The province has formally outlawed the sale of flavor-infused vape pens, and Health Minister Christian Dubé claims that the updated regulations are intended to better safeguard the youth.

In the next several days, inspections will be conducted to verify whether the most recent limitations are being followed.

What you need to know is as follows.

No flavours or e-cigarettes that “look like toys”

The main change is that, beginning of October 31, it will be illegal to sell vape devices with tastes other than tobacco. However, flavourless and odourless vapes are still allowed.

Additionally, it is against the law to sell vapes that resemble toys, jewellery, food, animals, actual or fictional people, or any other item that could appeal to children in any way.

The goal of the Quebec government’s tighter regulations is to “limit the attraction” of smoking and vaping to minors. After a similar move to outlaw flavor-infused cigarettes a few years prior, Dubé declared last spring that the government finds the prohibition of flavor-infused vapes to be “excessively important.”

According to data presented by the government, the percentage of high school pupils who reported vaping in the previous month increased from 4% in 2013 to 21% in 2019.

Additionally, the province stated that more than 90% of vapes used by children had flavouring or sweetness added to them.

restricting the amount of nicotine and refills

Quebec is restricting refills and size in addition to outlawing flavor-infused e-cigarettes.

Retailers are no longer allowed to carry vaping items with nicotine concentrations more than 20 mg/mL, and 2 mm caps must be placed on vaping liquid tanks and capsules.

Bottles and refill containers must not be larger than 30 mm.

Further details on packaging

Quebec is enforcing stricter regulations on tobacco products and mandating additional disclosures on vaping product packaging.

Product packaging needs to make the liquid’s volume and nicotine concentration visible.

A declaration indicating that the vape has no smell or scent or that its flavour is tobacco is also required.
